On March 6, 2023, an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L. I. held for 18 students of Bolgar sanatorium-type residential school an event on “Famous women of Russia” dedicated to International Women’s Day on March 8.
In Russia, the celebration of International Women’s Day has become a tradition almost immediately after its “invention” – from March 2, 1913. Until 1914, the holiday was celebrated on different days of March. The tradition of celebrating on March 8 began to strengthen everywhere after the women of Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia and other countries marked it on that day in 1914.
Since 1918, the International Women’s Day on March 8 is a public holiday. Since 1965, it became a non-working day. There was also its festive ritual. On this day at solemn events, the state reported to the society about the realization of the state policy in relation to women.
In 1977, the UN adopted resolution 32/142, calling upon all countries to proclaim March 8 as a day of struggle for women’s rights – International Women’s Day. Today International Women’s Day has lost its political overtones. Now March 8 is a holiday of spring, love and beauty.
During the event, children learned the history of the holiday, how people celebrate March 8 in other countries. Every man has the most important woman in the world – his mother. But there are women who are important for the whole country, who left their mark on history, women with famous names and women whose courage can’t leave anyone indifferent.
Students guessed riddles, solved crossword puzzles, actively participated in a quiz, and at the end of the lesson, they made colorful postcards.
