On February 28, 2023, an employee of the excursion department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Galimullina N.R. gave a lecture on “Escape from hell” for children of Bolgar sanatorium-type residential school, timed to the 78th anniversary of the escape of Soviet prisoners of war from the most secret missile base in Germany – Peenemünde. Largely because of the Russian pilot’s feat, this German missile and research center was unable to finalize the so-called “weapon of vengeance,” with which Hitler planned to turn the tide of World War II. According to M.P. Devyatayev’s memoirs, two autobiographical books -“Escape from hell” and “Flight to the Sun” were written.
During the lecture, pupils got information about the feat of the Soviet citizens who by the will of tragic circumstances were taken prisoner, but they didn’t stop fighting, didn’t lose faith in the victory, in the right cause and didn’t bow their heads to the enemy. Our compatriot brought closer the end of the war by his escape, not allowing Fascist Germany to gather its forces. Children listened to excerpts from the book “Flight to the Sun”, answered quiz questions, and the presentation helped to consolidate the proposed material.
