On February 21, 2023, the exhibition “There’s nothing better than our hut!” opened in the exhibition area of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization. Most people naturally associate the word “hut” with the word “village”. This association is correct. “Izba” was the name of the dwelling located in the countryside.
The exposition presents life of the peasantry at the turn of XIX-XX centuries through models of izba and household utensils: tools, clothing and tableware.
“Russian hut” is a wonderful world of antiquity. There’s a Russian stove with cast-iron and an oven-fork, a table with a samovar, irons, jugs, framed photos, homespun mats on the floor, an indispensable cradle in which more than one generation of a peasant family was cradled. Each item has its own story, with many interesting beliefs and rituals associated with it.
The exhibition will run until July 4, 2023.
