On February 21, 2023, an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Bitunova Y.A. for 14 students of Bolgar cadet boarding school held an event on “Defenders of our Motherland” dedicated to the Defender of the Fatherland Day.
History of the holiday on February 23 is an integral part of the history of the whole country. It is full of dozens of state, political and public facts repeatedly changing the fate of millions of people. The beginning of the widespread formation of units and parts of the Red Army was February 23, 1918. This day was declared a holiday – the Day of the Red Army. In 1946, the Red Army was renamed the Soviet Army, and the holiday, respectively, was named the Day of the Soviet Army and Navy. On February 10, 1995, the State Duma of Russia adopted a federal law “On the Days of Military Glory of Russia”, and this day was called the “Day of Defender of the Fatherland”. Today, as in former times, our army is famous for its soldiers, and it is customary to bring up the younger generation by the example of these people.
In the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization, children visited the exhibition “Along the roads of Afghanistan”, learned the history of the holiday, took a quiz and received gifts. At the end of the event, students had a tour of the museum.
