On February 16, 2023, an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sagirova L. Sh. held an interactive event on “Moabit notebook” for 16 students of Bolgar secondary school № 2. The event was devoted to the 117th anniversary of a Tatar poet Musa Dzhalil.
In May 1945, one of the units of the Soviet troops storming Berlin broke into the courtyard of the Nazi prison Moabit. The wind carried scraps of papers and garbage across the empty courtyard. One of the fighters noticed a piece of paper with familiar Russian letters. It turned out to be a page torn from some German book, and he read the following lines: “I am a famous Tatar writer Musa Dzhalil imprisoned in Moabit prison. I am facing political charges and will probably be shot soon. If any of the Russians get hold of this record, let them say hello from me to my fellow writers in Moscow.”
After the war, through France and Belgium, songs of the poet returned – two small homemade notebooks containing about 100 poems. The notebook forwarded by Andre Timmermans, in 1953, fell into the hands of Konstantin Simonov who investigated the story of Moabit notebook and achieved the rehabilitation of Musa Dzhalil.
Students watched a presentation on his work, saw the “Moabit notebook”, read poems by the poet-hero and watched the film “The Red Daisy”.
