On February 9, 2023, an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. gave a lecture on “Winter fun” for 15 children attending the House of Children’s Art.
In Russia, games have been loved at all times – they were truly massively popular, featuring a huge variety. Games reflected the spirit of the people, its history and occupied an important place in people’s lives. They were not just entertainment; games promoted lively communication between people and remained the main means of physical education, developing strength, agility, speed, accuracy and other qualities.
The word “fun” with the Slavs did not have quite an “entertainment” meaning, but it had a broader meaning: “a mass event”.
Winter has long been a time of entertainment and fun in Russia: all the seasonal fieldwork was over, and there was more free time, so the youth invented different ways to have fun and please everyone else.
During the lecture, kids learned about the games our ancestors played, the importance and necessity of sports for physical health, and talked about modern games and sports. At the end of the lesson, students took an active part in a quiz.
