On 27 October 2022, staff members of Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve held two regular classes in the creative studio “Territory of possibilities” for the students of grades 8-9 of the state educational institution “Bolgar boarding school for children with disabilities” and Bolgar comprehensive school №1″. The event was held within the project “Bolgar for Everyone” funded by the Tatneft Charity Fund. On that day, classes on the potter’s wheel and in the weaving workshop continued in the creative studio.
On the potter’s site, the schoolchildren continued to master modeling products on the potter’s wheel. Not everything turned out well at once, but remembering their first lessons and trying not to repeat mistakes, children worked hard to create their own pots. Kids really liked working on the potter’s wheel, and many of them decided for themselves to continue training in the following classes.
In the weaving workshop, children worked this time with fabric and created patchwork dolls with their own hands. Before getting down to work, they plunged into the past: from the craftswoman they learned a lot about these dolls, how and why people made them in ancient times. People used to attach great importance to them: they were both toys for children and amulets for babies. During the lesson, the skilled worker showed and told how to make such a doll from scraps of fabric. The students watched carefully and tried to do everything accurately to have a beautiful patchwork doll. Children helped each other, so everyone was very happy that they could make such dolls with their own hands.
In such classes in the creative studio, children learn about different directions of arts and crafts, the traditions of the peoples of their country, acquire new knowledge of history, skills in work, but most importantly – they learn friendly communication, mutual assistance and acceptance of each other as equals.
Nine schoolchildren took part in the class.
