On 27 October 2022, staff members of the exposition and exhibition department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve held a master class on “Magic clay” in the ceramics workshop for the children of the kindergarten “Rodnichok” of Spassky municipal district of RT.
One of the important crafts of Volga Bulgaria is pottery. Bolgar pottery amazes with its perfection, practical purposefulness of forms and thoroughness of surface finish. It was made by experienced masters on a potter’s wheel, was polished and fired in special forges. Shapes of dishes are very diverse and at the same time clearly defined: jugs, bowls, dishes, pots, korchagi etc. Beautiful Bolgar pottery was in demand not only within the country, but also abroad.
During the master class, children learned about the structure of the potter’s wheel and the material such as clay. They had the opportunity to make something out of it themselves. Kids really liked the event, listened with interest to the master, watched the process and participated themselves.
