On October 20, 2022, employees of Bolgar Museum-Reserve held two regular classes in the creative studio “Territory of possibilities” for the students of Bolgar boarding school for children with disabilities within the project implemented with the funds of the “Tatneft” charity fund. This time, children also divided into two subgroups and began to learn the technique of clay pottery on the potter’s wheel and work on the weaving looms.
At the site of pottery, before proceeding to work, students listened to a story about the structure of the potter’s wheel, how potters worked on it in ancient times, and what clay was used in the work. Guidance on safety when working with a potter’s wheel was performed for children. Then kids themselves began to work: kneaded the clay in their hands, prepared it for work, tried to put it on the potter’s wheel correctly and began to mold their first pots. The master helped them correct their mistakes, so that they will want to come to the next classes and learn to work on the potter’s wheel on their own.
Children also plunged into the past at the site of weaving craft: they learned how people made yarn and wove cloth in ancient times, saw the structure of the loom. Under the guidance of masters, kids began to master the technique of working on the loom, tried to weave a rug with their own hands using two yarns of different colors. Children really liked working on the loom because it was easy and fun for them. The participants were very pleased with their first work and expressed a desire to come to such activities, which they need not only to develop their creative abilities, but also to work together in a friendly way.
