On 16 August 2022, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Rogachyova M. N. held for tourists from Samara an information-knowledge event on “In search of the past” devoted to Archaeologists Day.
For over 150 years, archaeological research has been conducted on Bolgar ancient settlement. V.G. Tizengausen held the first scientific archaeological excavations in 1864. Further scientific, conservation and restoration works at Bolgar hillfort are connected with the Society of Archaeology, History and Ethnography at Kazan University, which was founded in Kazan. Since 1938, with a short break during the war, systematic work on the study of Bolgar was carried out under the guidance of A.P. Smirnov. In the 1950s, talented archeologists A.M. Efimova, O.S. Khovanskaya and Z.A. Akchurina worked in Kuibyshev archeological expedition. Active work of an outstanding historian, numismatist and archeologist G.A. Fedorov-Davydov, a historian and archeologist R.G. Fakhrutdinov falls on the 1960s-1970s. T. A. Hlebnikova dedicated over 50 years of her life to Bolgar. Since 1981, she had been a head of Bolgar archaeological expedition. P. N. Starostin made a great contribution to the study of Bolgar settlement. In the 70-80s, G.F. Polyakova, the specialist in ferrous and non-ferrous metals M.D. Poluboyarinova joined to the archaeological research of Bolgar. In the 1980s-1990s, N.A. Kokorina, M.M. Kaveev, L.A. Belyaev, M.B. Poluboyarinova, G.F. Polyakova, R.F. Sharifullin, A.M. Gubaidullin, V.S. Baranov participated in the studies of Bolgar. Large-scale archaeological research related to the Bolgar Revival Program began in 2010. The studies are carried out by both experienced and young scientists from Kazan, Moscow and Crimea under the guidance of specialists from the Institute of History and Archaeology named after Khalikov. Thanks to the Revival Fund, there is a modern archaeological base and all conditions for carrying out archaeological research.
During the event, tourists visited the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization where they became familiar with numerous archaeological finds revealing the history of life of ancient Bolgar. Walking around Bolgar hillfort visitors saw unique monuments of Muslim architecture of the 13-14th centuries and heard old stories about them. On that day, the guests also visited an archaeological dig where they talked to archaeologists and asked their questions.
