On 13-14 August 2022, Bolgar Museum-Reserve once again hosted guests and participants of the eighth festival of medieval battle “Great Bolgar-2022”. Tens of thousands of guests from different cities and over 300 fans of medieval martial arts attended the festival. Swordsmen, horsemen and archers dueled on the lists. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, the State Tourism Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan and Bolgar Museum-Reserve were the main organizing partners of the event.
During the opening ceremony, the Head of Spassky municipal district of RT F. V. Mukhametov, Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan for Tourism S. E. Ivanov and other officials addressed to the audience. They thanked the participants of the festival, as well as all those who came here as spectators, wished them success in their performances and a good holiday.
On the festival site, visitors could watch the spectacular battles of the warriors of the Golden Horde, Russia and Europe. For two days of the festival, the knightly single combat, archery and equestrian tournaments, as well as mass fights – bugurts were held. All this looked spectacular making a special impression on those who attended the festival for the first time.
In addition, everyone could take part in master classes and learn ancient crafts, historical dances and songs. Entertainment for children was organized at the playground.
The evening space of the main festival site appeared before the audience in the light of burning torches, and enthusiastic dancers drew the guests into the world of fire with a beautiful theatrical fire show!
