On 11 August 2022, a research associate of the museum-educational department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Vagapov R. Z. held an interactive event on “Traditions of Bolgar tea party” for the guests of the museum-reserve. During the event, the participants became acquainted with the history of emergence and development of the tradition of drinking tea, and how it was reflected in the culture of Tatars. The guests learned the secrets of tea trade in Russia and in Kazan province of the 18th and 19th centuries, and what position the Russian merchants occupied on the European tea market. The interactive event revealed the secrets of Bolgar tea, the recipe for its preparation and serving. There was a master class “Bal-mai” where the visitors became familiar with the history of this old Tatar dish, its recipe and tradition of serving, tasted Bolgar tea and bal-mai.
