On 12-13 August 2022, an opera “Kara Pulat” by composer Elmir Nizamov based on the libretto by Renat Haris was performed on the territory of Bolgar Museum-Reserve. The musical performance was devoted to the 1100th anniversary of adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria. It took place outdoors in front of the Black Chamber, a monument of Bulgar architecture of XIV century. The opera “Kara Pulat” (“Black Chamber”) was first staged in 2015 at the K. Tinchurin Tatar State Drama and Comedy Theater with the support of the Renaissance Foundation led by Tatarstan State Councilor M. Shaimiev. On the walls of the Black Chamber, the effect of modern light visualization was realized. The opera was performed to the accompaniment of the Tinchurin Theater Orchestra under the direction of Ilyas Kamal, the winner of the Youth Award of the Republic of Tatarstan named after M. Jalil. Before the show of the opera, the State Councilor of RT M. Shaimiev spoke. He greeted the audience and thanked the actors and participants of the performance.
The plot of the opera is based on a Tatar legend about twelve girls who were burned by Tamerlan’s warriors. The warriors of the Samarkand emir Tamerlan captured twelve beautiful girls, one of whom was the daughter of Bulgar khan. The warriors must deliver her to Tamerlan as a concubine but they have no way of knowing which of them the khan’s daughter is. They subject the girls to various tests but the true friends of the khan’s daughter do not betray her and confuse Tamerlan’s warriors in every way. However, someone informs them that the khan’s daughter does not burn in a fire. The nuker of the Samarkand emir orders to drive all the girls into a stone chamber, to surround it with firewood and set fire.
More than two thousand people were able to see the opera against the background of the legendary Black Chamber. The performance left a lasting impression on everyone present. Light special effects and decorations of the adjoining territory added a special flavor to the performance.
