On 7 July 2022, on the holiday of Ivan Kupala, an interactive event on “Wreath of wishes” was held in the territory of Bolgar Museum-Reserve for the students of the 4th grade from the village Old Drozhanoye of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The day of Ivan Kupala is an ancient holiday of giving thanks to the sun, of summer ripeness and green mowing. It was believed that all herbs gathered on that day have healing power. On Ivan’s day, there was many customs relating to water and flowers. On that day, people sang, danced, did a circle dance, placed flower wreaths on their heads and jumped over bonfires. But the main miracle of this holiday was fern. According to the legend, it blooms only one night a year – on the night of Ivan Kupala. Who is fortunate to find the flower of fern, he will be happy and rich. According to another legend, where the fern blossoms, the treasure is hidden.
On that day, children had an excursion and visited the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization, saw unique architectural monuments of the ancient Bolgar, listened to old stories and legends. Then kids went down to the Historical quay, visited the Gabdrakhman’s well where they learned the history of emergence of the holiday of Ivan Kupala. Children with great interest participated in folk games and even found a hoard with souvenirs. Making a journey to the past, kids discovered many new things and got a lot of bright impressions.
