On May 19, 2022, an employee of the department of excursions of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Glavnova V. N. held an informative and educational event on “The Volga-Mother” for the students of Bolgar boarding school for children with disabilities. The event was devoted to the Day of the Volga.
We live in the heart of Russia, in the Volga region. Our region is multinational – Tatars, Russians, Chuvashes, Mordovians and many other nations live here. All peoples are united in one place by the largest river in the European part of Russia – our beautiful Volga.
There are many majestic and full-flowing rivers in our country. Each of them is beautiful in its own way and has been the breadwinner of the people since ancient times. But only one “water highway” stands out against the background of a network of Russian rivers – the Volga-matushka. It can be safely called not only a treasure trove of life, but also a source of inspiration for creative people. As a sign of sincere respect to the river, in 2008, a special holiday was established on May 20 – the Volga Day.
During the event, students learned about the Volga, the major cities on its banks, the people and their customs. Children learned the names of the great generals, singers, artists, musicians, poets, political figures associated with the Volga; heard about the fabulous wealth of the Volga basin and the forest, the abundance of fish, wild animals and birds, rich black earth, minerals and scenic spots. A presentation was shown, proverbs and sayings about the river were read. Pupils with interest listened to songs about the Great River and took part in a quiz.
