On May 12, 2022, employees of the department of museum-educational activities of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. and Bitunova Y.A. held an event on “We remember! We are proud!” for the students of Bolgar secondary school № 1.
On September 1, 1939, Nazi Germany led by A. Hitler attacked Poland. World War II began. After Poland, the Nazis conquered Austria, Czechoslovakia, France and Norway. Twelve European countries were captured by the fascists.
On 22 June 1941, at 4 o’clock in the morning without declaration of war Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union. 190 land divisions, 5000 planes and 200 warships of Germany unleashed their attack on our country. The attack was sudden, and the border was broken in a huge area – from the Barents Sea in the north to the Black Sea in the south. The Soviet-German war began, in Soviet and Russian historiography referred to as the Great Patriotic War.
The enemy hoped for a lightning war. In six months, the Soviet Union was to be nothing but a memory, but the Nazis plans were not fated to come true. The Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was the war of the people; not only the army, but the whole people stood up to defend our homeland. Volunteers went to the front. Yesterday’s schoolchildren became soldiers.
During the event, students learned about the main stages of the Second World War, about the courage and heroism of the people in the fight against fascism, as well as about the heroes of our region who participated in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
