On May 7, 2022, an employee of the department “Museum Street” of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sagirova L.S. conducted a museum lesson on “A young man won’t sell his country for gold and silver” for the students of the 1st grades of Bolgar secondary school № 1. The lesson was timed to the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
Many books has already been written about the Great Patriotic War. Today we look at the history of those heroic years from the soldiers’ letters, which have survived very little – in archives, museums, among the personal documents in the family archives of citizens.
Letters, letters … How much a triangle folded by a soldier’s hand conceals within itself! Where, under what circumstances did it get into a mailbox? When did it reach the addressee? It was not delivered immediately – the wartime mail was often delayed. How did the communicators work in that terrible war? One of the most important tasks for German commanders was to destroy communication centers and systems, telegraph and telephone lines. For this purpose, special sabotage groups were thrown into the rear of the retreating troops. Under these conditions, postal workers performed their duties to the last possible extent, and often their work was interrupted by shouts of “Germans!” or “Tanks!”
At the museum lesson, students learned how soldier letters from the front reflected the atmosphere of the time.
