On 3 May 2022, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Mukhamedov V.A. held a lecture on «Siege of Königsberg» for the students of the 8th grades of Bolgar sanatorium-type residential school.
The city known as Kaliningrad used to be an old German town of Königsberg. In 1945, Soviet forces entered eastern Prussia and started to besiege the city. Hundreds of thousands of people on both sides fought for one of the most important cities in the Baltic. Soviets troops managed to take it with much less casualties than the Germans. This was an example of the increased Soviet operational art of command, an example of professionalism and experience of Soviet soldiers.
During the lecture, schoolchildren learned about the background of the Soviet offensive on Königsberg, about the parties’ plans for the campaign of 1945, the realization of German and Soviet plans on the fronts of the war, the course of hostilities and their results.
