On April 22, 2022, the employees of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization Zarifullina T. G., Kamayeva T. P. and Salnikova V. A. held an informative and educational event on “Great Bolgar slumbers quietly under the shade of centuries…” for pupils of the 6th grade of Bolgar secondary school № 1.
Tatarstan in the distant historical times was a part of Volga Bulgaria, which emerged at the turn of IX-X centuries. In the 20s of the 10th century at the junction of the Volga and Kama, the city of Bolgar became its capital. “Northern MECCA” is the name of Bolgar town today. In historic times, it was called the “Gate of the East”. Today, the town of Bolgar attracts not only with its legends, but also with its beautiful monuments. Children saw the models of unique constructions of XIII-XIV centuries, heard the legends about the ancient monuments: the legend of Bolgar, the legend of the fireproof princess, the legend of Rabiga Lake, etc. They watched with interest a small video film “Ancient city of Bolgar”. Then schoolchildren were acquainted with runic writing. In those ancient times, the written language was considered sacred, and only the elite owned it, therefore runic signs were considered mysterious and were used not only for information transfer. The runic symbols were used to foretell the future. Now runic inscriptions are found carved on the rocks all over Eurasia. The legacy of the ancient tribes have been preserved, and since the beginning of XIX century, there has been a wave of interest in the magical side of the runes. Studying the runes gives the opportunity to touch history, to learn the deeper properties of your people and your ancestors.
Children were actively involved in making amulets with runic signs. Everyone chose and drew runes for their amulets, the value of which they would like to apply to themselves for protection.
