On 19 March 2022, the head of the department “Museum Street” of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sagirova G. Yu. held an interactive event on “Spring beauty – Nowruzbike” devoted to the holiday Nowruz. The event was held for the students of the villages Antonovka, Tri Ozera, the town of Bolgar and for the participants of folklore ensemble “Sespel” under the leadership of Valentina Yaklicheva.
It is believed that this holiday is more than 3,000 years old. It became international officially in 2009 when UNESCO included it in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Traditions of celebrating Nowruz came to us from antiquity. They symbolize renewal and entering a new life. Before the holiday, you should get out of debt, clean the house and prepare special holiday dishes.
Staff members of the museum-reserve prepared a diverse program. A contest “Spring beauty – Nowruzbike” was held for girls. It consisted of three stages:
1. Self-presentation – the presentation of contestants in a theatrical form, talking about yourself, about love for the native land and a unique congratulation on the coming of spring using famous expressions of Tatar poets, writers and scientists.
2. “A feast of feasts” – demonstration of a prepared national dish and a brief story of how to cook it.
3. “Creative performance” – revealing talents of contestants: dancing, singing etc.
Among the participants of the contest, there were the winners in different nominations. All of them received diploma and gifts from Bolgar Museum-Reserve.
At the end of the event, everybody ate porridge prepared on a fire, drank fragrant tea from a samovar and tasted pancakes.
