On 10 February 2022, a staff member of the museum-educational department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. held a lecture on “Folk games” for the students of the town of Bolgar.
Winter has long been the time for amusement in Russia: seasonal work on the fields ended and people had more free time that was why youth made up different ways of having fun. Resourceful and innovative Russian people invented winter fun entertaining themselves during long and cold time of the year. They went sledding, skiing, skating, made snowmen and played in the snow.
The word “fun” itself had not only “entertaining” sense but also meant “massive event”. In ancient Russia, people always loved games like any other nations. Games had mass character, and there was a great variety of them. They reflected the spirit and history of people and played an important role in their life. Games were not just entertainment but also contributed to the lively interaction among people and remained the principal means of physical education developing strength, agility, speed, accuracy and other skills.
During the lecture, children knew about the games of our ancestors, figured out that sport competitions are important for physical health and talked about modern sports and games.
