On 22 December 2021, on the shortest day of the year, staff members of Bolgar Museum-Reserve together with activists of the Student Council of Spassky College of sectoral technology and the Integrated Social Service Centre “Sunrise” held for children a theatrical event on «Kysh Babai’s birthday».
Ancient Turks marked the beginning of the renewal of life on the longest night of December. It was believed that on that night, the supreme god Tengre ruling the world and the deities created Kysh Babai to rule Winter. On the longest night, the Winter Deity – Kysh Tongrese – showed respect and devotion to Tengre. He was responsible for the merry celebration of this great day, which was held around a sacred evergreen tree – a spruce. People called this holiday «Nardugan» – the birth of Light.
At the event, kids heard an ancient Tatar legend about a funny and good old man who directed the winter. Children congratulated Kysh Babai on the holiday playing games and dancing around the Christmas tree and received sweet gifts.
The administration of Bolgar Museum-Reserve expresses gratitude to all participants and to the District House of Culture of Spassky municipal district of RT for assistance in the organization and holding of a theatrical event «Kysh Babai’s birthday».
