On 16 December 2021, in the museum “Bolgar tea party” staff members of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Rogachyova M. N. and Sagirova L. Sh. within the project “Pushkin’s card” held an information-entertaining event on “Traditions of Bolgar tea party” devoted to the International Tea Day, which is marked on 15 December. The event was conducted for the students of Bolgar cadets’ boarding school.
In the museum “Bolgar tea party”, there is a rich collection of samovars of XIX-XX centuries, and there you can see many things that accompanied the traditions of drinking tea of peoples living in the Volga Region at that time. Tea party always characterized kindness, hospitability and generosity of spirit peculiar to the culture of Russian and Tatar people. Tea party at that time was a school of good manners where people learned how to receive guests, treat them and behave nice at the table.
During the event, children knew the origin of the word “tea”, learned about the traditions of drinking tea of peoples living in Tatarstan and their peculiarities, heard old Russian and Tatar proverbs about a samovar and tea party, became familiar with the museum collection of samovars. Kids in a playful way studied the structure of a samovar, knew about the use and application of items connected with tea party, learned about an old national treat of Bulgars – “bal-mai” – and prepared it with their hands. At the end of the event, children themselves set the table for drinking tea according the traditions of Russian and Tatar people and enjoyed tasty tea.
