On 28 October 2021, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Mukhamedov V. A. within the project “Pushkin’s card” held an event on “Peter I on the land of Bulgars” for the students of Bolgar cadets’ boarding school.
The ruins of ancient town of Bolgar were out of monarch’s sight for a long time. This changed when Emperor Peter I came to power in the Russian Empire. The extensive research of our town began with his activities. Peter I was the first among Russian emperors who visited Bolgar that is why this fact is of particular importance for the ancient town.
The event is devoted to the visit of Peter I who stopped in Bolgar in 1722 going to the Persian campaign. He looked at the ruins, ordered to collect and translate epitaphs with Bulgar and Armenian inscriptions and told to preserve Bolgar ruins as the historical monument.
During the event, the guests had an opportunity to retrace the footsteps of Peter in Bolgar and to visit those places where maybe the great emperor walked.
