On 8 September 2021, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Galimullina N. R. held an interactive-knowledge event on “Study is the best wealth” for the schoolchildren of Bolgar. The activity was devoted to the International Literacy Day. This day established by UNESCO in 1966 is celebrated the 56th time.
Today, there are more than 700 million illiterate and less educated people in the world, and more than 70 million children are among them. This problem is of particular relevance in the third world with small economies where there are wars and civil disorder. All this led to the establishment of the holiday.
During the event, children received information about the holiday in a playful way. They played riddles, remembered proverbs and sayings about study and literacy, looked for mistakes in sentences and did puzzles. Kids also learned how education of the population developed in the territory of Volga Bulgaria. At the end, children made a calligraphic postcard with their own hands.
As is well known, calligraphy used to be the first art, in which a student was involved. A child was taught literacy and calligraphy at the same time to ease the process of memorizing, to lay the groundwork for aesthetic taste and to reawaken ability to appreciate art.
