R. on Gabdrakhman’s well held a theatrical event on “Revived stories and legends of Bolgar” dedicated to the Day of family, love and loyalty.
Russia celebrates the Day of family, love and loyalty annually. On that day, the Russian Orthodox Church marks the holiday in honor of Saints Peter and Fevronia who anciently were considered patrons of family and marriage in Rus.
The initiative to establish a new state holiday was unanimously approved in the Federation Council at the committee meeting on social policy on 26 March 2008.
Peter and Fevronia are honored church veneration because they gave an example of a perfect Christian family. According to the life of saints, Peter had leprosy years before reigning, and nobody could heal him. The prince dreamt that the beekeeper’s daughter Fevronia could cure him. She was beautiful, pious and kind. She knew how to treat people for ills. The prince fell in love with Fevronia and promised to marry her after his cure. The girl healed the prince but he didn’t keep his word. The disease resumed, Fevronia cured Peter again, and then he married the healer. They died on the same day at the same time – on 8 July 1228.
During the event, the visitors learned about another story of a magic cure – the legend about adoption of Islam in Bolgar. It is connected with the name of one of sahibs sent by Prophet Muhammad. Sahab Gabdrakhman cured khan’s daughter for a disease. Costumed heroes: Aidar khan, his daughter and sahab Gabdrakhman – met the guests. The theatrical event was very bright and interesting. The participants had a lot of new impressions and positive emotions.
