On 16 June 2021, a staff member of the museum and educational department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirova L. A. held an interactive lesson on “Honey and butter are juices of Bolgar land” for the children of a school camp of Tryohozerskaya comprehensive school.
The event took place in the museum “Bolgar tea party” where kids had an interactive excursion. After that, they had a master class in preparing a national dish “bal-mai”. Children knew a secret of one of the oldest dishes of Tatar cuisine – “bal-mai”. It is a bright and sweet heritage of Volga Bulgaria. It was given to nursing mothers, newlyweds and guests. This treat was spread on pieces of wheat bread and washed down with herbal tea with oregano and thyme. Kids tried bal-mai and had a lot of positive emotions and good mood. A unique combination of honey and butter gave an opportunity to feel all juices, the sun and energy of our land.
