On 8 June 2021, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Gaifutdinova O. A. held for tourists an event on “Live, spring, a shrine of the land…” devoted to environmental issues and the problems of preserving springs. The event was held in conjunction with World Environment Day.
Human health, economic prosperity and the quality of life depend on environment. Human behavior adversely affects living organisms, plants, landscape and water. Soil, atmosphere, rivers and seas become polluted, and populations are reduced. In order to draw the attention of a government, society and industrial enterprises to current environmental issues, the international holiday was created. World Environment Day is marked annually on 5 June. In 2021, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries celebrate this day.
Holiday events are accompanied by an annual theme reflecting current problems of humankind. On that day, people plant trees and shrubs, pick up the garbage. Environmental organizations carry out their activities. Educational lectures, conferences, seminars and thematic lessons are held. The ways of careful treatment of natural resources are discussed in educational institutions. Leaders of social movements attract attention of society to current environmental problems using demonstrations, protests and flash mobs. Documental and feature films about nature are broadcast on the television and radio.
During the event, tourists remembered what springs are, talked about legends and beliefs connected with them and became acquainted with the most famous springs of Bolgar and the district. At the end, it was concluded that while preserving springs we could save clean water for future generations.
