On 14 May 2021, staff members of the department “Museum Street” of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L. I. and Bitunova Yu. A. held an event on “Family is the main treasure” for the students of the 6th grade of Bolgar cadets’ boarding school. The event was devoted to the International Day of Families.
The purpose of the holiday is to raise public awareness about the problems of families and to strengthen family values. Different discussions, conferences, festivals are held for the holiday. Every year, the International Day of Families is held under a certain theme, on which the UN Secretary-General publishes the messages where he describes the main problems and possible ways to overcome them.
For the first time people begin thinking about such holiday in 1989. The UN Committee put forth the idea of creating the date devoted to a small unit of society. On that day, it was planned to highlight the most pressing issues of family relations and to create a plan for correcting problems by social forces.
However, in the early 1990s, the number of divorces began growing dramatically. In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 May as the official date of International Day of Families. In the Russian Federation, celebration of this day began in 1995.
Family is the main thing in life. For each of us family is our near and dear ones, those whom we love and wish good and happiness. Within the family, we learn to love, to respect, to be responsible and careful.
During the event, kids knew about the history of emergence of the holiday, learned how people in Russia and in the world celebrate the Day of Families. Children also talked about family values and traditions of different nations of the world, did puzzles, played riddles and actively participated in various contests. At the end, kids received small gifts.
