On 3 May 2021, a staff member of the museum and educational department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirova L. A. held for tourists an interactive lesson on “Easter is a holiday of holidays”.
Easter or the Resurrection is the oldest holiday of Christians and the most important celebration of the year for believers. On that day, people celebrate rising from the dead of Jesus Christ. It symbolizes a triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and keeps unforgettable memories of how Jesus sacrificed himself to save humanity.
The date of celebration is calculated every year on the lunar calendar. There are two complex astronomical systems for calculating the exact date – Gregorian and Alexandria Easter. The Russian Orthodox Church follows Alexandria Easter and uses the Julian calendar.
The event took place in the Museum of history of Assumption church. During the event, the guests learned about the history of the holiday, its traditions and omens. They actively participated in an Easter quiz. At the end, everybody received Easter eggs as congratulation on this bright holiday. An egg was considered a symbol of the sun, life and land fertility.
