On 16 April 2021, a staff member of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Gumerova G.T. held an event on «Back to the past…» for the students of Bolgar special boarding school for children with limited opportunities.
On 18 April 1984, the International Day of Monuments and Historical Sites was declared on the initiative of the Assembly of the International Council for the Conservation of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) created within UNESCO. This day was established in order to draw attention of the public to the world’s cultural heritage, monuments and historical sites and to recall that this cultural heritage needs constant care and protection.
The International Day of Monuments provides an opportunity to learn more about the diversity of the world’s heritage and the efforts made for its protection and preservation. This day is widely celebrated in many countries-members of UNESCO including Russia where care for monuments and historical sites became an official business under Peter I (1722) when for the first time measures were taken to protect individual antiquities.
At the event, children learned the history of every architectural monument of Bolgar hillfort and received commemorative gifts with their image in the form of plaster products. Kids will be able to paint them on their own.
