On 23 March 2021, a research associate of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Muhametshin J. G. held a practical master class in Nordic walking for the participants of the club “University of the third age”. This sport walking is very popular among various sectors of population. Special sticks are used for walking, which are much shorter than classical ski poles. The use of sticks significantly eases move, takes the pressure off legs and spine.
Emergence of walking with sticks can be measured back to ancient times when shepherds and pilgrims used sticks as an aid in difficult terrain. In medical and health institutions, sticks also have long been used in physical therapy. A version close to a modern embodiment is linked with professional skiers of Finland. They tried to keep themselves fit outside the ski season and started training without skis using skiing sticks.
The participants of the event walked along the route developed and visited architectural monuments – the Small minaret and the Black chamber. Then they went to the south gate of Bolgar and took a picture against the White mosque. During the walk, training workout was held, and the principles of Nordic walking were described. This walking does not imply a serious stress on the heart that is why it does not have any contraindications. In doing so, the general tone of the body is supported, muscle activity is strengthened, and cardiac work is improved. The participants of the club got the positive charge and good mood.
