On 18 March 2021, the head of the exhibition complex “Memorial Sign” Kabirova G. H. held a lecture on “Poetry is music of words” for the students of the comprehensive school of the village Tri Ozera. During the meeting, kids learned about the biographies and work of famous Russian and Tatar poets.
Throughout history, poetry was one of the key forms of expressing thoughts and feelings. It existed in all languages and cultures, worried the most secret heartstrings and gave answers to pressing questions.
In 1938, an American poet Tessa Sweezy Webb took the initiative of establishing Poetry Day. At first, it was celebrated in the state of Ohio, and the date fell on 15 October – the day of birth of Vergil, the Ancient Roman poet. By 1951, this day became the National Day of Poetry recognized by 38 states of the United States and Mexico. Later, the holiday became global.
The issue of celebration was discussed at the meeting of the Commission of UNESCO. Poetry is of great importance for supporting linguistic diversity, preserving endangered languages and uniting people of different cultures. 21 March became a new date approved in 1999 at the 30th UNESCO General Conference in Paris.
