On 16 March 2021, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Gaifutdinova O. A. held an event on “Earth Hour” for the students of the 3rd grade of Bolgar comprehensive school №1. This is the action dedicated to World annual environmental event – Earth Day.
The idea appeared in Sydney in 2004 when the Wildlife Fund learned thoroughly climate change studies. The advertising company developed the concept The Big Flick. In 2006, the action got its current name. Because it was not just about the flick to turn off the light but also about more serious things.
The Fund and citizens of Sydney aimed at showing their unity in the struggle for the life of the planet and for clean environment. In 2007, two million people in Sydney turned out the lights for the first time. Later, 35 countries and 100 million earthmen participated in this action.
In the capital of Russia, traditionally once a year at 20:30 Moscow time, the illumination of Red Square and all its objects is switched off. Also, the lights are down in MSU, City Hall, on Sparrow Hills, in the Presidium of RAS, in the largest shopping centers etc. In the northern capital, lights are going out in the Winter Palace, on Dvortsovaya Square, in the Petropavlovsk prison etc. The action Earth Hour will be held on 27 March this year.
The world also turns off the lights including key landmarks. Many famous monuments of the world from the Colosseum to the Empire State Building stand in the dark during an hour.
At the event, schoolchildren listened carefully to the information, and by turning the lights off in the cabinet, they demonstrated their willingness to take part in the annual ecological action Earth Hour.
