On 15 December 2020, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Galimullina N. R. held a video lesson on “Traditions of Bolgar tea party” devoted to the International Tea Day. The event took place in the museum “Bolgar tea party”.
Tea is one of the most ancient drinks in the world. Its usefulness and taste are incomparable to other drinks. This divine drink strengthens immune system and helps the body to fight diseases and daily stresses.
For the first time, the idea of establishing the International Tea Day arose in 2004 at the World Public Forum in Mumbai (India). Then discussion continued at the meeting of the Centre for Education and Communication in Porto Alegre (Brazil). In 2005, it was decided to celebrate this holiday on 15 December.
There was no question for the organizers about choosing the date because on 15 December, World Declaration of Tea Workers’ Rights was published. In addition, this date is also connected with a famous event in world history of tea – “the Boston tea party.” It took place on 16 December 1773 – on the day when the American colonists staged a protest against the tea tax established by Britain. They threw the crates of tea in the harbor of Boston.
The holiday was established in order to draw the world’s attention to the problems of the production and marketing of tea, to the situation of tea workers, and with a view to show, that tea is useful and tasty.
During the event, the audience became familiar with the museum exposition and learned about the history of emergence and the purposes of celebration of the International Tea Day.
