On 27 October 2020, staff members of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization Zarifullina T. G., Kamayeva T. P. and Salnikova V. A. held an information and entertainment event on “A golden magician Autumn” for the students of the 2nd grades of Bolgar Comprehensive School №1. Children knew about autumn omens and a Harvest Festival. They became familiar with the history of emergence of Tatar folk holidays as Sombele or Harvest day and Kaz omese or Goose holiday.
The history of Tatar national holiday of plucking geese Kaz omese goes deep into the past. Tatars and other Turkic peoples breed geese with love, as in the past. The tradition of plucking a goose is a special holiday combining work and having fun. Boys and girls had a sit-round gathering, sang songs, played games and looked for a pair. Traditionally on that day, people preserve goose meat in advance and pluck fluff for pillows and blankets, which go for the bride’s dowry. The holiday of a “goose feather” is still one of the favorite celebrations in villages.
Golden Autumn came to visit the children and brought a magic basket with vegetables, riddles, games and contests, in which the kids actively participated. They enjoyed the games as “Plant and gather potatoes”, “Little cooks”, “Treasure hunters”, “Carry a feather”, “Who is faster and bigger?” and others. Friendship won, as always! The event ended with a tour of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization, bright pictures on the memory and sweet prizes.
