On 22 October 2020, staff members of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Glavnova V. N., Rogachyova M. N. and Galimullina N. R. held an interactive and knowledge event on “The holiday of White cranes” in Bolgar Comprehensive School №2.
In 2009, UNESCO proclaimed 22 October as Literary holiday of White cranes and put it on the International list of commemorative events.
This memorable day is famous not only throughout Russia and in the CIS countries, but far beyond them. Such a poetic name appeared due to a poem of R. Gamzatov “Cranes”. He was the one who became the founder of this remarkable commemorative day. On this holiday, people remember the image of “White cranes”. It is a celebration of solidarity and poetic song about the dead soldiers around the world. The meaning of this Memorial Day is honoring of memory of departed warriors during different wars throughout the world, which continue, unfortunately, until the modern day. Most often, memorable constructions are made in the form of the eternal flame, cranes or the image of mother and soldier. The holiday was the beginning of creation of the “crane” monuments around the world.
At the event, the students became acquainted with the biography of Rasul Gamzatov, knew interesting facts of creating the holiday and learned about a tragic fate of a Japanese girl Sadako. The presentation and quiz used during the activity helped to consolidate the information received.
This event is a “Living memory” because those are alive who fought in Afghanistan and Chechnya, because memory of the dead is cherished by their comrades-in-arms, families and loved ones. This memory is alive while brides, wives and children remember it, while we talk and sing about it.
The students observed a moment of silence in honor of soldiers who defended their homeland and mighty Power.
