On 1 October 2020, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Salimova G. I. held an information lesson on “Khan’s palace”.
Archaeologists claim that masters from Central Asia built Khan’s palace in the middle of XIII-beginning of XIV centuries. Judging by the depth of foundations, it was a two-story building. The palace was erected for Batu Khan during the last years of his reign or for Berke Khan – successor of Batyj.
Khan’s palace (the House with towers, or the Palace of Batyj) opened on the territory of the reserve in 2007 that is why excavation is still going on there. The ruins of the palace are in the center of Bolgar. Before the destruction, the complex included the Cathedral mosque and khan’s bathhouses, which are considered individual objects nowadays.
Khan’s palace is an important landmark of the town. It is a large-scale construction with corner towers. The building is considered one of the earliest structures of the period of Golden Horde. It is a rectangle with a size of 29х24 meters. This construction was built in the middle of XIII century. On the territory of the complex, there is a lot of interesting exhibits relating to that time. The palace represents a museum.
At the event, the audience became acquainted with the architectural monument of XIII-XIV centuries, which is regarded as one of the most significant objects in the history of Bolgar.
