Since 2010, implementation of integrated project “Cultural heritage – the town-island of Sviyazhsk and Ancient Bolgar” commenced on the territory of Bolgar town. During this time, major works for the development of excursion and tourist activities were held. The tourism infrastructure was created: roads and parking lots were renovated and constructed; a visitors’ center was built where conditions for receiving a large number of visitors are provided; there is a chain of outlets and public catering, the recreation area on the territory of the ancient town. The preservation of architectural and archaeological sites remains an urgent objective. All buildings and the territory are equipped with a video surveillance system. There is evening and night lighting within the territory of the museum-reserve. Eight museums work on an ongoing basis: the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization, the Museum of Koran, the museum of history of Assumption church, the museum “Healer’s house”, the museum “Nobility of Spassky uyezd”, the museum of Abdulla Alish, the museum “The town on the river” and the museum “Bolgar tea party”. Visiting these museums is included in various routes. After a tour, the guests can visit the natural and historical complex “Gabdrakhman’s well” and take a walk along the Historical quayside.
In closing, it would be useful to note, that a collective of Bolgar Museum-Reserve successfully works on the preservation of historical and cultural heritage of Bolgar and its popularization.
