On 25 August 2020, a methodist of the museum and educational department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sagirova L. Sh. held a video tour “The White mosque”.
Everyone who comes to Bolgar Museum-Reserve and the town of Bolgar always visits the beautiful White mosque. Important Muslim holidays are celebrated and religious ceremonies are held there.
Arabian and Indian motifs are guessed here which is highly unusual for our architecture. The mosque was designed by the architect Sergey Shakurov in 2010-2012. The complex consists of the mosque, mufti’s residence and madrasah. The domed mosque is in the center of the symmetrical composition. On both sides of the mosque, there are two-storey bodies of mufti’s residence and madrasah connected with the mosque by an arched gallery on the ground floor.
Entrance to the mosque has a high portal with a pointed doorway. Its shape is repeated by high pointed windows of the hall decorated with stained glass. The building is flanked by two four-tier minarets modeled on the mosque of the Prophet in Medina.
In the center of the square, there is a fountain that reminds us of the transience of life, gives cool and provides us comfort of the worldly worries.
