On 20 August 2020, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Mukhamedov V. A. held for the visitors of the museum an event on “Peter I on Bolgar land”.
The ruins of ancient town of Bolgar remained far from the look of monarchs for a long time. That changed with the advent of the emperor Peter I to power in the Russian Empire. Extensive study of our town started with his activities. Peter the Great was the first Russian emperor who visited Bolgar that is why this event is particularly important for our town.
The activity was devoted to the visit of Peter I who stopped in Bolgar in 1722 travelling to the Persian campaign. He inspected the ruins, ordered to collect and translate epitaphs with Bulgar and Armenian inscriptions and commanded to preserve the ruins of ancient town as a historical monument.
