On 28 July 2020, in the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization and in the Museum of the history of Assumption church, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Rogachyova M. N. held for tourists a thematic event on “The history of Orthodoxy in Volga Bulgaria” devoted to the Day of christening of Russia.
The Day of christening of Russia is celebrated on 28 July every year as the day of memory of St. Prince Vladimir the Great (15 July in the Julian calendar) who accepted a christening in Chersonese in the Crimea. The Day of christening of Russia is enshrined in the legislation of the Russian Federation as a commemorative day of an important historic event, which had a significant effect on the social, spiritual and cultural development of Russian peoples and on the strengthening of Russian statehood.
During the event, the guests visited the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization and the Museum of the history of Assumption church where they became familiar with the history of Orthodoxy in Volga Bulgaria. Taking a tour of the ancient city the visitors discovered Bolgar not only as a Muslim town but also as a town of various religions, which always coexisted peacefully in it. At the end of the event, the guests had a quiz on the subject.
