On 25 July 2020, a staff member of the museum and educational department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirova L. A. in cooperation with specialists of Autonomous State Social Service Institution “Integrated Social Services Centre “Sunrise”” held an interactive event on “Honey and butter are the juices of Bolgar land”.
The event took place in the museum of “Bolgar tea party”. An interactive tour was held for the guests, and after that, a master class in preparing a national dish “Bal-mai” was demonstrated. The kids knew a secret of preparation of one of the most ancient Tatar dishes – “Bal-mai” (honey and butter). It is a bright and sweet dish of Volga Bulgaria. It was given to nursing mothers, newlyweds and guests. People were treated to “Bal-mai” spreading it on pieces of wheat bread and washing it down with some herbal tea with oregano and thyme. The children tasted “Bal-mai” and got a lot of positive emotions and good mood. A unique combination of honey (bal) with butter (mai) gave an opportunity to feel all juices, the sun and energy of our land.
