On 20 July 2020, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Galimullina N. R. held for tourists an event on “The games of Volga Bulgars” devoted to the International Day of chess.
The guests listened to spellbinding legends about the origin of chess, knew the history of emergence and dissemination of this game in the world. It is not a secret that an ancestor of this and many other games was an ancient Indian game “chaturanga”.
In the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization, the visitors became acquainted with the history of our people, saw items demonstrating the popularity of chess and other board games among the local population. The event ended at the site for medieval games located at the historical quayside. The guests had an opportunity to play these medieval games there.
