On 8 July 2020, a staff member of the museum and educational department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirova L. A. in cooperation with specialists of Autonomous State Social Service Institution “Integrated Social Services Centre “Sunrise”” held an interactive event on “Come to us with your family!” for minor children.
On 8 July, people in Russia celebrate a holiday, which is not political, not entertaining but a very warm and deep by design – the Day of family, love and loyalty. At that day people usually speak about their loved ones, say kind words to each other, smile and enjoy summer and the sun. A tradition to celebrate this day appeared in our country not long ago. An idea to celebrate the day of family values originated in the town of Murom of Vladimir oblast. In this town in the temple of the Holy Trinity of the Holy Trinity Monastery, the relics of saint spouse Peter and Fevronia rest. They are regarded as the patrons of Christian marriage. Peter and Fevronia are examples of family love and loyalty. They lived happily ever after for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health and died on the same day and hour on 8 July 1228. In 2002, the residents of Murom offered to celebrate the day of Peter and Fevronia not only in their town but also all over Russia. The holiday was called the Day of family, love and loyalty. Since 2008, this day became All-Russian holiday. State Duma deputies officially established this holiday, and it was decided to celebrate it on 8 July every year.
At the event, the kids learned about the history of emergence of the holiday, knew the origin of the word “family”, actively participated in a quiz and gathered proverbs. The event ended with a tour of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization. All the children were delighted, had fun and received memorable gifts from the museum-reserve.
