On 21 June 2020, staff members of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Glavnova V. N. and Sagirova L. Sh. held an event on “Day to Remember” devoted to the Day of Memory and Mourning – the day when the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 began.
On 22 June, people in Russia remember and mourn the defenders of the Fatherland. On that day 75 years ago, fascist Germany attacked the Soviet Union without a declaration of war. This day serves to remind us of all who died during the battles, who was tortured in captivity (especially in concentration camps) and who died of hunger and deprivation in rear.
During the event, the audience saw a presentation about heroes who fought to the last drop of blood in Brest, at the Kursk Bulge, who met his last hour on the Oder, died under torture, went to the forest as a partisan and died killing fascists. In the museum of Abdulla Alish, the guests became familiar with the life and creativity of Tatar children’s author and participant of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. He became a prisoner. In 1944, he was killed at Plotzensee Prison for his underground activities in the concentration camp. Alish led the struggle against fascists together with a poet Musa Jalil.
The event was concluded with a moment of silence.
