On 14 June 2020, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Salimova G. I. held an event entitled “Sabantuy”.
Sabantuy is a national holiday of the end of spring field works celebrated in June. It is one of the favorite events of children and adults. The word “Sabantuy” comes from Turkic lexemes “saban” – a plow and “tuy” – a holiday. Sabantuy is celebrated every year, it was not held only during wars and hard times. It is a holiday of labor, health, strength and agility. This event accompanied by various songs and dances has its own customs, ceremonies and consists of different competitions. The holiday is under the protection of UNESCO as a masterpiece of the oral heritage of humanity because it is a real precious stone of national unity and friendship.
First of all, Sabantuy is valuable as a national holiday, which helps us to get in touch with folk traditions of communication and fun. If there are traditions, there is a nation. If there are no traditions, there is no nation. Preserving and protecting age-old traditions of Tatars, their customs and rites, native language and songs we strengthen our foundation as a nation.
At this event, the audience became familiar with the history of Sabantuy, with national traditions and customs of its celebration and knew what competitions and games are held on that fun day.
