On 21 February 2020, staff members of the department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve “Museums on Nazarovyh Street” Sagirova G., Kutbutdinova Z., Bitunova Y. and Sokolikov A. held an interactive lesson on “The king of ink writing” for the children-participants of Chuvash folklore association “Sespel”. The event devoted to International Mother Language Day took place at the museum of “Nobility of Spassky uyezd”.
International Mother Language Day announced by General Conference of UNESCO in November 1999 is celebrated on 21 February every year. The date was chosen as a memory of the events, which took place in Dacca on 21 February 1952. That day, the students who demonstrated in defense of their mother language Bengali and demanded to recognize it as the State language were killed by police gunfire.
The lesson began with children’s acquaintance with the museum exposition and a lecture. The kids learned about the history of emergence of the holiday, its traditions and knew a lot of interesting information about this memorable date. During the event, the children played different games, remembered rare proverbs and sayings competing in knowing native languages.
A wide variety of national languages of the Middle Volga Region was shown at this activity. The kids sang Chuvash songs, read poetry in Russian, and special guests demonstrated their playing a national Armenian musical instrument.
At the end of the interactive lesson, a general dictation in the mother tongue was held. Homemade ink and writing feathers were used for it. The children showed not only their literacy, but also ability for a nice handwriting. Yaklicheva Olga was the best to do that task. She received a diploma from the administration of Bolgar Museum-Reserve.
