On 5 March 2020, a staff member of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L. I. held an event on “Women’s Day 8 March” for the students of the 1st grade of Bolgar Comprehensive School №1. The activity was devoted to International Women’s Day.
This holiday appeared as the day for women’s rights. On 8 March 1857, in New York women working in garment and shoe factories went to a demonstration demanding the improvement of working conditions and giving them equal rights with men.
In 1910, at International conference of socialist women in Copenhagen Klara Zetkin made a proposal to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March. Her words sounded as a call to all women of the world to fight for the equality. In 1911, this holiday was celebrated for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. In Russia, the celebration of this day became a tradition since 2 March 1913.
Before 1914, this day was celebrated in different numbers of March. The tradition of celebrating it on 8 March began to be strengthened everywhere after the women of Austria, Netherlands, Germany, Russia and other countries celebrated it on that day.
Since 1918, International Women’s Day on 8 March became a national holiday, since 1965 it was announced a non-working day. It had its holiday ritual: at ceremonial events on this day, the state reported to the society about implementation of State policy in respect of women. In 1977, the UN adopted resolution 32/142 calling all countries to announce 8 March as the day for women’s rights – International Women’s Day. Later this day lost its political issue, and now 8 March is a holiday of spring, love and beauty.
During the event, the children learned about the history of emergence of the holiday and traditions of celebrating it in other countries of the world. The students actively participated in KVN “Come on, girls!” and made beautiful postcards at the end of the lesson.
