On 25 February 2020, staff members of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization Zarifullina T. G. and Salnikova V. A. held an information and entertainment event on “People, celebrate! Maslenitsa is at the gate!” for the children of the older and preparatory groups of Bolgar kindergarten “Solnyshko”.
Maslenitsa is an old, merry and noisy national holiday. It has not the exact date, but people celebrate it at the end of February or at the beginning of March every year. They say goodbye to winter and meet spring. The main hero of the holiday is a pancake. It is round, brown and hot, it symbolizes the sun, which shined brighter and lengthened the days. People said that if to celebrate Maslenitsa with fun you would be happy next year.
The children became acquainted with the history and traditions of the holiday and learned that each day has its own name. The kids with interest listened to the legends about emergence of the word “Maslenitsa”, actively played riddles and participated in games and contests. The event ended with a traditional tea party with pancakes and bagels.
